The Brief
A global robotics brand entering its most ambitious holiday season
Robosen Robotics — a Shenzhen-based company with Hasbro and Disney IP partnerships — needed US and UK earned media coverage ahead of a packed Q4: the debut of Disney & Pixar MINI Robots, the retail launch of Flagship Megatron, and an under-wraps Soundwave announcement.
I was engaged through agency partner Honey Ventures HK to run the full PR program, starting August 2025 through January 2026.

Strategy
Three campaigns. One adaptive playbook
Rather than a single launch push, the campaign was structured in three distinct phases — each with its own media strategy, target list, and asset approach. As results came in, the strategy adapted in real time.
01
Multi-bucket media targeting
Built segmented media lists across consumer tech, toy trade, parenting & family, gift guides, and Transformers/Disney fan sites — matching each product to the right editorial audience rather than blasting a single list.
02
Review units as relationship currency
Placed hands-on product access early with priority reviewers — recognizing that high-ticket collectible robots require tactile credibility before journalists will commit to coverage.
03
Tell Story / Show Story exclusive strategy
For the Soundwave launch, secured a Verge exclusive with a tiered embargo: The Verge got the first written preview (Tell Story); broader press received full visual assets only after the exclusive broke (Show Story).
04
Pivot in real time
Midway through, data showed larger robots outperformed MINIs with media. Strategy shifted to accelerate Megatron coverage and fast-track the Soundwave add-on — turning an observation into a second wave of momentum.
“PR strengthened Robosen’s brand authority in robotics and created a foundation for scalable media growth going forward.”

Campaign Phases
From embargo to full-market coverage in three acts
Phase 1 · Sept 2025
MINI Series Launch

Coordinated embargo lift Sept 25 with 10+ outlets going simultaneously. Secured coverage in Kidscreen, Toy Insider, Toy Book, Pop Insider, Pickr (AU), Trend Hunter, and Geeking Out. Holiday gift guide pitching ran in parallel with long-lead print editors.

Pivot to Larger Robots — Megatron Retail Launch
With media response showing stronger interest in premium robots, the program pivoted to Megatron’s retail launch. Issued a major press release Nov 18, targeting consumer tech and lifestyle outlets for the $1,499 flagship. Secured ABC7, Entertainment Weekly, CNET, and continued holiday gift guide momentum into Black Friday.

Lessons Learned
What this campaign confirmed about the market
Larger robots win with media
Coverage and journalist interest skewed heavily toward the flagship Megatron and Soundwave over the smaller MINI series — confirming that premium, collectible-scale robots carry more earned media weight than entry-level products.
Lead time matters
Holiday gift guide editors work weeks ahead of publish dates. Getting reviewer units into hands early enough to hit those internal deadlines was often the deciding factor in whether a product made the list at all.
Price skepticism is real
At $1,499, Megatron drew value questions from some outlets. Framing shifted to lean on engineering detail and collector-grade craftsmanship rather than toy comparisons, which resolved most of the friction.
Disney IP underdelivered
Despite strong brand recognition, the Disney & Pixar MINI tie-in generated less coverage and reach than the original-IP Transformers robots — a reminder that licensed nostalgia doesn’t automatically outperform a brand’s own flagship story.
